Marcus Clyde is a freelance manga artist and illustrator. He is a candidate for a B.A. in Art at Valdosta State University. Growing up in Charlotte, NC, Clyde has always been captivated by the act of storytelling, creating protagonists and supporting characters with diverse backstories, along with arcs that push the story and context further. His work currently consists of five series: Spiker, Star Century, A Wizard’s Fate, Elven Quest, and Harume-Chan is an Evil Mastermind!.

The concept of world building outside of the one we currently reside in can be a phenomenal, eye-opening experience. The act of telling a story that involves an expansive environment, characters that develop over time, and introducing new perspectives in the writing can really refresh the imagination. I use books and posters to convey diverse worlds and stories of my own creation. Color brings vibrancy in each work to express diverse moods within scenes and the distinct appearances that define each character. The posters are utilized to unify the world along with the characters in dynamic compositions. 

A Wizard’s Fatefollows a group of young wizards traversing the magical world and understanding the beauty and horror of what magic is. The elements include light, fire, air, water, earth, life, technology, abstraction, and darkness. These elements can be found and interpreted in the flowers found on the grass in the work, as they retain intricate shapes. I draw strong influence from Japanese manga and anime, along with open world video games. I am influenced by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), Eiichiro Oda (One Piece), and Hiro Mashima (Naruto).
